Baby Feet Photos Make Priceless Memories

It is a terrible tragedy when a baby dies before even going home from the hospital. For the heartbroken parents of these children, photographer Julie Williams of University Hospital in Utah volunteers to capture every memory she can. Baby feet photos are the most popular, as well as little hands, curled up legs, and peaceful faces.

If parents are interested, nurses call her when babies have passed away or are about to die. The photos are portraits, usually in black and white. They are described as haunting but beautiful. The babies look like they are asleep. These portraits show a significant change in how fetal death is handled. Parents were once encouraged not to see or even name their babies.

In the past several months, Williams has been promoting her service, which is free to hospitals throughout Utah. The volunteer work has started to eclipse her job, but she says that it is worth it.
